The Legendary and veteran film producer from Andhra Pradesh, Dr. D.Ramanaidu has been conferred the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009. The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution in the field of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl. The award is given on the basis of recommendations of a Committee of eminent persons.The award will be given at the National Films Awards Function scheduled to be held in October this year.

Born in Karamchedu in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh in 1936, Dr.  Ramanaidu  entered the film world in 1963 with his first film ‘Anuragam’, followed by the super hit film ‘Ramudu-Bheemudu’ starring NTR in 1964. Over the last 47 years, he has been a prolific producer of over 135 films in several Indian languages and finds mention in the Guinness Book of Records.

Apart from Telugu films, he has the distinction of producing movies in

Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Assamese, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi and Bhojpuri. Dr. Ramanaidu has won various laurels for his films. His film, “Surigadu” was selected for the Indian Panorama in 1993. “Asukh”, a Bengali film won the National Award for the Best Film in 1999. Apart from this, the films of the veteran artist have been honoured with several awards from the Andhra Pradesh Government.

The galaxy of artistes who have worked in his films include N T Rama Rao, A. Nageswara Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, Pandari Bai, Jamuna, Padmini, Sobhan Babu, Kamal Haasan, Jayaprada, Chiranjeevi, Rajnikanth, Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rekha, Jeetendra and Sreedevi.

Dr. Ramanaidu has built an envious track record in the film world for having introduced numerous film directors as well as artistes and technicians. A few well known artistes introduced by him include Venkatesh, Harish, Vanisri, Aryan Rajesh, Tabu, Khushboo, Allari Naresh and Malasree.

Dr. Ramanaidu has also produced a film titled ‘Hamari Beti’ in Hindi which focuses on how handicapped people can lead a normal life and achieve their goals. The protagonist in the film is a girl who is severely handicapped in real life. This film has been screened in International Film Festivals like Chicago and Venice.

Apart from the above, Dr Ramanaidu has set up studios, recording, preview and dubbing theatres and laboratories in Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam. During his entire career span, Dr. Ramanaidu has been associated with every aspect of film making, thereby delivering a bouquet of entertaining films to the people.

The Hyderabad Film Club (HFC) is happy to announce that a five day short films and documentary film festival is going to be organized at Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad from September 24th to 28th, 2010, every day between 3.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. in association with Andhra Pradesh State Film Television and Theatre Development Corporation Limited, Hyderbad. The competitive event is expected to be one of the major film festivals in the South India and is likely to receive a large number of entries from not only Andhra Pradesh, but also from all over India.

Hyderabad Film Club (HFC) is a pioneering voluntary organization with its avowed mission to propagate the cause of Good Cinema in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Film Club has been holding academic sessions on cinema comprising film studies, and has been promoting cinema that combines high aesthetic, social and educational values.

Renowned Acting Guru, Professor Ram Gopal Bajaj; has been the director of National School of Drama and the chief of NSD Repertory Company. Many of the plays directed by him for NSD and its Repertory were landmark productions. He is renowned for his ease with various departments of theatre be it writing, directing, acting, make-up, lighting and set design. He was conferred with the Padmasri in 2003. He is recipient of other awards for his all round contribution to Indian theatre Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Kala Parishad. He is nominated as a member of the Indian National Comission for Co-operation with UNESCO by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He is also a member of core group of the 10th Five Year Plan of Ministry of I & B and Ministry of Culture. Apart from writing, designing, directing and acting in several plays, he has acted in various films and television programmes and served as a member of jury of the National Awards and the International Film Festival of India. The Bard of Avon was never more right. The intensive six-month course on acting will begin with acting exercises to hone in skills of sense and emotional memory, attaining absolute belief in given circumstances, methods to develop psychological gesture, physical approaches and viewpoints. The course will include a brief introduction on historical backgrounds on master like; Konstantin Stanislavski, who developed special methods for physical awareness of the corporal centre and consistent physical energy thereby heightening the actor’s primary elements. Students will be trained to include specific exercises attributed to each master. The course will also concentrate on voice training, martial arts, speech & diction, movement, improvs, rehearsal & audition techniques, film aesthetics and script analysis. By the tenth week, they will progress to work along with the Direction & Cinematography students on ‘Open Scenes’ and monologues. Such collaborative learning will increase their grasp over all the players involved, which in turn will help in developing dynamic performances.

The festival is being organized by the Centre for Media and Cultural Studies (CMCS), Tata Institute of Social Sciences. CMCS is an independent centre of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, engaged in media teaching, production, research and dissemination.A unique feature of the Centre is the close linkage between the technical and academic areas of its work, thus facilitating a synergy between research, teaching and production, all of which are informed by a keen sense of connection with local subaltern cultures of resistance and invention.The CMCS has done pioneering work in critical media education in the country. Currently the centre runs a two-year Masters degree in Media and Cultural Studies focusing on professional media practice and research within a framework that enables the development of a critical perspective on media, culture and society. It seeks to enable the creation of a lively group of thinking doers and doing thinkers.

The second Cut.In Students’ Video Festival will be held at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai on the 30 and 31 January 2010. The festival is being organized by the Centre for Media and Cultural Studies (CMCS), Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

CMCS is an independent centre of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, engaged in media teaching, production, research and dissemination. This national level video festival aimsto encourage talent among this group and also to bring them together. The competition is for short documentaries, short films, public service messages and music videos produced between 1 January 2008 to 15 December 2009.
