Ramanaidu Film School, a leading film school in India, is committed to training students in the art of editing and sound design. RFS boasts a distinguished faculty of experienced, professional digital editors and industry experts who are committed to providing students with the hands-on guidance to successfully complete the school’s demanding curriculum. This one-year programme is aimed at creating professionals in the field of Editing & Audio Recording. Students will learn the nuances of both film/video editing, as well as sound recording and sound designing. Each student will be associated with one team that comprises a student director and a student cameraman. Together, they will execute projects and assignments.

At the end of the course, students can opt to specialise in Editing, Sound Recording or both! The sky’s the limit, really. Each student will get to edit or handle the sound for the student diploma film made by students from the Direction & Cinematography departments.

All the coursework designed by RFS is such that it will make the student strong in not only theoretical aspects, but also in practical aspects of their subjects. Students will get to work with equipment and software that are currently being used in the industry.

SYLLABUS

As part of the Editing Coursework, the student will get to learn the following:
  • Introduction & History of Editing
  • The Editing Workflow
  • Principles of Editing
  • Why Editing is Needed
  • The Different Transitions and Their Usage
  • How to Edit Different Sequence
  • Introduction to Non-Linear Editing
  • The Various Formats and File Types and How to Deal with Them in the Edit Process
  • The Interface of the NLE Software and how to Customise it
  • How to Edit using the NLE, Tips to Master the Software
  • Transitions and Special Effects, Compositing, Titling and Subtitling
  • How to Give the Final Output, Export Settings and Cater to the Different Media Requirements
As part of the Sound Recording Course, the student will get to learn the following:
  • What is Sound? Nature and Characteristics of Sound Waves, Human Hearing Mechanism and Various Acoustics Methods and Treatments
  • Introduction to Music, Appreciating Music, Listening to the Different Kinds of Music like Folk Music, Classical Music, Music from Cinema, Pop, Jazz, etc
  • Basic Electronics/Technology used in Production Reproduction and Recording of Sound (XLRs, RCA DIN cables, etc)
  • Practical Audio Programme Production and Recording: Introduction to Recording Devices, Microphones, Recording Sound inside the Studio & in Non- acoustically Treated Indoor and Outdoor Locations
  • Practical Understanding and Handling of Digital Recording Devices, Working on Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), Customising the Interface and Exercises to Master the DAW.
  • Practical Exercises related to Dubbing, Foley Sound Recording, Music Recording and Mixing Final Audio and Mastering
  • Handling of Live Mixing and Recording
  • Networking opportunities with experts from the film and television industry.
