RAJ KUMAR ROY

PROFESSOR OF FILM ART AND AESTHETICS

 Rajkumar Roy is a graduate of Political Science from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata.  Following this, he graduated in Direction and Screenplay Writing from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune from in 1988. After preliminary stints in assisting in films at Mumbai, he set up an Advertising Production House at Chennai and directed numerous Advertising and Corporate films.

  • He was at the same time associated with Odyssey Video Communications in Bengaluru, as a director of advertising films and videos. In addition he was involved in music, videos, documentaries, television production, and creation of internet content.  He also worked as a production coordinator as he is highly familiar with the logistics of film production.  Before embarking on a stint of teaching films, he spent many years doing research and studies in the area of Film Aesthetics, Film Theory and Film History.  

  • In the year 2009, he joined the Ramanaidu Film School, affiliated with the Masters programme of Jawaharlal Nehru Fine Arts University, and became the Professor of Film Art and Aesthetics. At the same time, he also teaches the Principles and Techniques of Film Editing, Visual Design, and Documentary Cinema. He believes that Film Aesthetics and History should be an integral part of Filmmaking Courses, and Cinema Studies should be an essential field of study on the University level in the country.
